Fighting in the Age of Loneliness: Supercut edition

This is entirely thanks to you. We have reached one-million subscribers and that feels very wild to finally get to say. We'll have more in store, but to start things off wanted to show our appreciation by offering the repackaged Fighting in the Age of Loneliness in its entirety.
Jon Bois and Felix Biederman put together this documentary a few years ago, beginning the process in 2017 and publishing it in November 2018. A lot of you weren't around back then, a lot of you might not have watched all of our stuff back then, a lot of you might need an excuse to kill two hours right now. Jon's work has meant so much to our team and to our audience for a long time now so we felt there was no better way to say "thank you" than with this special project.
We truly can't express our gratitude enough. The community here that you have helped us build means the world to us, and it's something we never even expected could really be achieved. This won't be the last time we say it, but thank you.

    • A city built, the grand stage is lit. The warm glow from the lights is cast upon the gathered subscribers. An all-around sense of deep satisfaction sweeps the crowd as the ticker hits One Million. . . . . . . . . . . In the distance shrouded by mist, a slow, satisfied, rhythmic clap is heard from the back. The dark stranger whispers under his breath as he dissipates into the darkness-"We did boys, we did it."- later in the night, after the celebration has quieted and the sweet reality sets in, we come to realize the name of that stoic mysterious man. His name "Subscriber number 1". Congrats guy's keep up the good work!

  • Excellent job! Hopefully people that watch this piece go back and watch it again. It is a brilliant metaphor for anyone that can pay attention and think without being distracted. In life there are no rights and wrongs as that applies to written rules and laws created by the usual corrupted and bought individuals looking to gain more from themselves through using those around them. In life there is what you choose to do and what choose not to do...Choose wisely and do not resort to excuses if and when things do not work out as you expected. Take a look around at everyone you know and most of all take a good long hard look at yourself in a mirror. And reflect.

  • hey, the subtitles on this really need another pass. they are FULL of typos that radically change the meanings of sentences, and i have a really hard time understanding what felix is saying without subs, so i.. don't think i can get through 2 hours of this while constantly having to scrutinize and re-process the subtitled sentences that don't make any sense. seriously, if it was just the occasional error it'd be understandable but i'm 16 minutes in and something is substantially mis-transcribed usually multiple times per minute (for a fun one go to 11:05 where "a 5'2" 90 pound frame" is subbed as "a five 290 pound frame". because obviously Jigoro's biggest barrier to entering jiu jitsu was the five massive bodies he controlled in unison!)

  • Tea part was an authoritarian movement? Define your editor's terms, please, or maybe review the actual movement, yourself, and not what MSNBC has archived about it. Some of the history you had in here was arranged in a genuinely entertaining way, but your decision to shoehorn in your politics was frustrating. Did you ever consider that Obama met obstruction from the right because they were opposed to his ideas, and not because he was black? Why so cynical?

    Mr. IstaphobeMr. Istaphobe11 ngày trước
    • @bret4880 bret4880 I didn't like Obama's policies, because many of them were ineffective, or just bad, not because he was black. Can you please name a republican that voted against his agenda because he was black? And yes. Inserting politics in a documentary about the downside of MMA is the very definition shoehorning. He conflates the attitudes of Americans with the different eras of modern America history, and shoehorns his own political views into that narrative, as if all people felt that way during those times, for the reasons he gives. That's not really debatable, but it is somewhat effective, because some people buy it, I guess.

      Mr. IstaphobeMr. Istaphobe5 ngày trước
    • Sure they didn’t like his politics because they didn’t suit there racist beliefs and they didn’t like him because he was black, he’s not shoehorning anything the point of the doc was to talk about society not just MMA
